UV dryers are often used in nail salons to dry gel nail polish.
These dryers have lamps or LEDs that emit UV or ultraviolet radiation, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
Researchers wanted to better understand how the dryers and the radiation they admit impact the body. They they exposed human and mouse cells to UV rays from a dryer found that the rays can permanently change DNA.
However, the FDA says nail curing lamps and UV dryers are low risk when used as directed by the label.
