The work I do with you is empowering you to take care of what you really need without food when food won’t help.
I don’t tell folx to reframe everything in order to be “happy,” but to release unhelpful stuff, and to handle whatever is going on effectively. There’s a big difference between wanting to live happier, more free, and more at ease in life, and feeling bad for not being happy all the time.
Also let’s not with the “what happened was great because you learned and are stronger” it’s “what happened sucks, so don’t shove it down or away, you are strong enough to look at it, feel it, and decide how to move on.”
Repetitive negative thoughts, re-experiencing the effects of hard stuff from the past over and over, mean self talk and harsh self judgement, perpetually punishing and shaming oneself, those are signs there’s something that needs attention and can be handled.
But seeing these thoughts and beliefs as weaknesses and shameful is just as unhelpful.
It’s that shit happens and feeling shit about it happens, but it doesn’t have to forever wreck you, or lead you to use food to ignore it.
The goal isn’t “happy,” the goal is being empowered to just be with everything this beautiful crazy ride that this human life thing is.
Happy comes and goes. Just like all the other emotions. What we want is the unshakeable core of self that isn’t too attached to any of them.
There’s real joy in that.
