From The Archive: "Portrait of Quentin Crisp in his New York apartment in 1990." © Jack Picone. Crisp became a gay icon in the 1970s after publication of his memoir, The Naked Civil Servant, detailing his life in homophobic British Society. Later the book was adapted for television, Crisp began a new career as a performer and lecturer. He landed roles on American television and the 1990s became his busiest decade as an actor. Crisp was a self-confessed flamboyant homosexual who was often harassed and ridiculed because of his orientation but he always remained true to himself. He died in 1999, just shy of his 91st birthday. #Gay #Actor #Writer #NY #Homophobic #USA #Icon #JackPicone #Reportageworkshops #Activist #Britain #British #Homosexuality
