I just received news that Mr Francis Seow has passed away. Francis was Singapore's solicitor-general. He was detained under the ISA when he tried to represent some of the detainees during the 1987 arrests. As president of The Law Society, he also fought against, among other things, the amendment to the NPPA which restricted circulation of international newspapers in Singapore.

I always enjoyed his wit when we met. He also wrote the Foreword to my book, The Power of Courage. He died in Boston, USA where he lived in exile after he fled Singapore. My deepest condolences to the Seow family.
