Atlantic Coast Line's "Whopper Hopper" has been donated to the North Carolina Transportation Museum by the City of Rocky Mount, NC Gov. Offices. The car was built in 1964 by Pullman Standard and was the largest car of its type in the world at the time. The ACL 500000 was the only one produced.

In 2001, the N.C. Department of Transportation Rail Division purchased the car from a Savannah, Ga scrapper and moved it to Rocky Mount where they preserved the car to its original ACL markings . With the help of then Rocky Mount Assistant City Manager Peter Varney, it was donated to the city of Rocky Mount.

Special thanks to the NC DOT Rail Division NC By Train, Carolina Coastal Railway, CSX, and Norfolk Southern Corp for their support in moving the car to its new home in Spencer. It arrived this week!
