Prior to WWII the Brigade of Guards and retired Gunners carried out stewarding duties, however post WWII they were all in permanent employment.

In 1946 the AELTC invoked the help of the Services by approaching those personnel who were being demobilized and employing them during their demobilization leave. This was the beginning of the combined Services involvement; for the first 2 years the Royal Navy provided stewards f...ollowed by the Army in 1947 and the Royal Air Force in 1949.
