Other nominees include Pixar’s “Soul” with four nominations (including Jamie Foxx for Best Vocal Performance), “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” with five nominations (including Chadwick Boseman for Best Actor) and “Promising Young Woman” with six nominations (including Carey Mulligan for Best Actress). “WW84” is up for four awards, including Best Costume Design and, the least desired category, Worst Film of 2020. Curiously, Brandon Cronenberg’s “Possessor” is nominated in three different categories: Best Horror Film, Best Sci-Fi Film and Best Overlooked Film.

For Best Hawaiian Film, the nominees are “Waikiki,” “Aloha Surf Hotel,” “Swarm Season,” “Water Like Fire” and “Tokyo Hula.”

Overall, out of the hundreds of new films released in 2020, 66 films were nominated, down from last year’s count of 71.

The Hawaii Film Critics Society, which was founded in 2015, will vote on the established nominees next week and release their final tally on January 12th.
