There was time when what is now the Driving Test Centre in Woolwich Road was the police station. Built in 1881 at a cost of £3,386 Unlike many other stations it was built to blend in with adjacent houses. Belvedere at that time had a strength of two inspectors, three sergeants, and twenty six constables. It remained active until 1968, when the present station was built on the corner of Nuxley Road and Woolwich Road.
The photos. show the original station, and the force in 1880 taken at the rear of the building.
Then there is the 1968 men taken just prior to its closure. With exception of the fire escape the background is the same.
Finally the present station.
