Trivia Thursday!

The spillway gates at Tuttle Creek Lake were opened 0.8 feet on July 19,1993 at 15:15 hours. This was the first and is still the only time the gates have been used to release flood water through the strucuture. The lake was at 1135.74 elevation or 3-inches below the top of the gates when they were opened, resulting in 10,000 cfs moving through the downstream spillway channel. Spillway releases were increased daily through July 23, and at 6:00 pm, the peak release of 60,000 cfs was reached. All 18 gates were opened 4 feet and stayed at that setting until August 9 when they were all closed.

Today marks the 25-year anniversary of the start of this spillway event. The lake peaked during this period at 1137.77 feet.
