On this day in 1974 Denis Law played his last competitive game in England (Yes, that’s right!). People often incorrectly claim his last domestic game was for MCFC v MUFC at the end of the 1973-74 (the myth being that he was so distraught at scoring v Utd that he retired immediately - he didn’t!). Law started the 1974-75 season and retired shortly after MCFC signed Asa Hartford. His last appearance was in the Texaco Cup (classed as a first team competition at the time).
