The latest situation of IChO 2020 due to COVID-19 pandemic
As you know, severe restrictions have been implemented in many parts of the world to avoid the spread of COVID-19. As hosts, we have decided not to postpone IChO 2020 to a later date in autumn as the risks and restrictions continue to increase. It is clear that not all contestants would be able to attend the Olympiad in person to participate.
Instead, we are considering to gather the mentors’ opinion on a remote vir...tual online competition. The exam will include only the theoretical part. We know that this is far from what everybody was hoping for, but we think it is an option in these exceptional circumstances.
At this stage, we ask delegations to confirm by April 20 2020 whether they would still like to participate in the Olympiad in this new format.
At the same time, a discussion between mentors has been initiated to find the best way to organize a remote online exam until April 20 2020. After this date and no later than the end of April, the hosts and the Steering Committee members will put forward a plan whether the competition will be organized and if yes, how the competition will be organized. This plan will be distributed to the national contacts for further discussion and finally voted on by the International Jury.
