Since 1952, members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch have ensured people and goods move safely through Alberta and helped keep our economy moving by protecting our highway infrastructure.
That proud history has recently entered a new chapter: as part of a recent reorganization within Alberta Justice and Solicitor General, members of the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Branch have joined the Alberta Sheriffs.
Under the new deployment structure, the former CVE branch will continue to conduct commercial vehicle enforcement as usual, working at existing vehicle inspection stations, mobile inspection stations and conducting regular patrols.
To reflect the change, officers now wear Alberta Sheriffs shoulder flashes identifying them as members of the branch. Sheriffs markings will be phased into the former CVE fleet.
Bringing the two organizations together will result in coordinated command and deployment throughout the province, as well as reduced administration costs. Having CVE officers in the Alberta Sheriffs will make it easier to fill traffic enforcement positions internally from a pool of qualified candidates. The move also provides a wider range of career opportunities for all members of the Sheriffs Branch.
Our two organizations have always been united by the same purpose: to keep everyone safe on Alberta’s highways. Working side by side, we are as committed to that mission as ever.
