We are sad to report that Harold Robinson passed away yesterday after suffering a major stroke earlier in the week. He was born May 22, 1932. He was co-author of the Ditrichum treatment in volume 27 and his work in Asteraceae formed the basis for many of the FNA treatments in that family. The Smithsonian will be a different place without him--he had been a curator in the Botany Department of the National Museum of Natural History since 1960. His research focused on the taxonomy and revisionary studies of the plant family Asteraceae, including the tribes Eupatorieae, Heliantheae from the New World and Vernonieae of both the New and Old World. He had extended interests in the taxonomy of the Neotropical plant family Bromeliaceae, the Bryophytes from the New World, as well as the insect fly family Dolichopidae.
