On 25 August 2021, Lt Gen Schneider received the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun for his great contribution during his tenure of two and a half years as Commander of United States Forces Japan.
Defense Minister Kishi expressed his appreciation for Lt Gen Schneider’s dedication to the Japan-U.S. Alliance through various efforts to strengthen the alliance capabilities to deter and respond, and to gain understanding from local communities to the USFJ operations.
