#ThrowbackThursday The name “Rideout Road” on Redstone Arsenal is probably the most misunderstood road name on the installation. The road was not named “Rideout” because personnel ride in and ride out of the installation. Instead, it was named in 1941 by the US Army Chemical Corps for 1st Lt. Percy Rideout. Rideout was from Concord, Massachusetts. A graduate of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Rideout was commissioned Jan. 4, 1918. An officer of the First Gas Regiment, he was killed in action in France on Oct. 8, 1918 and was posthumously promoted and awarded the Distinguished Service Cross for “extraordinary heroism in action.” He is buried at the Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial in France. So the next time you “ride out” of Redstone Arsenal, think about 1st Lt. Rideout. Team Redstone. #tbt
