Colonel Sir Charles Douglas Lowther, 6th Bt
Colonel Sir Charles Douglas Lowther, 6th Bt. was born on 22 January 1946. He was the son of Lt.-Col. Sir William Guy Lowther, 5th Bt. and Grania Emerald Suzanne Campbell.
His father commanded the 8th King's Royal Irish Hussars during the Korean War, and in turn Sir Charles would command the Irish Hussars like his father.
... He married, Florence Rose Cramsie, daughter of Lt.-Col. Alexander James Henry Cramsie and Gabrielle Patricia Hornby, in 1975.
He was educated at Winchester College, Winchester, Hampshire, England. Promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in 1966 in the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars. He was Aide-de-Camp to the Chief of the Defence Staff between 1974 and 1976 and succeeded as the 6th Baronet Lowther, of Swillington, co. York on 7 May 1982.
He was Commanding Officer of the Queen's Royal Irish Hussars between 1986 and 1989 and was admitted to Gentlemen at Arms in 1997 and held the office of High Sheriff of Clwyd between 1997 and in 2003.
Sir Charles was a strong supporter of the Queen's Royal Hussars Regimental association and was a trustee till his death in October 2018.
