Today April 15 is our traditional tax-day. For some folks it's the last day to file having waited until the last possible moment to pay. This year due to the Covid 19 virus our traditional tax deadline date has been graciously extended to July 15.
I included a number of George Lukens’ diary entries where he writes about paying his taxes, I also included Towamencin's 1733 tax records. This is our township's earliest known tax record. Nex...t to the image you can learn how the tax revenue was used.

Third day 15th I at School, in the even Daniel Price came & I paid him 2 Dols 73 Cents road tax it being in full
March 1, 1810
Second day 5th A dull morning James fetched some wood for the School I to School in the evening Jos Smith came I pd him his road tax it was 2 Dols 70 Cents A very stormy night

Fifth day 13th To school, after which I went to Issac Krupp’s [in Towamencin] to pay tax he not at home. I left 10 Dols 12½ Cts & 75 cents for Abel [George's adult son].

Seven day 12th To school. I was at J. Godshalks & John Luken’s [Towamencin area neighbors] thence back to school. Isaac Sharre was here I paid him the tax in full 11$ 81cts
April 1836
Second day 11th I bot groceries @ 1D"24C. Fish & potatoes 62½. Cotton yarn 1$ 75 Expence & hostler [inn keeper] 1$ 12½ started on, stopped at Wm Jeans’s [his in-laws in Whitemarsh] & fed & had victuals, thence to D Acuffs [William Penn Inn] pd him 35 Dols of Abels money thence to Abel’s pd him 30$ 31 Cts in full thence home the family as usual they weather cold. Seth had settled & pd B Hendricks the tax 14$ 48 Cents
April 1837
Third day 25th Very cool I went to get a shoe put under Paoli, [the family horse] soon after I returned. Sam Livezy, & Tho Shoemaker came, & after dinner, we had a comfortable sitting, & Sam spake a good deal, they started, and Esther Hannah & I started & went and got Sarah Yocum went to Wm Wilson's they appeared very glad & prevailed on Sarah to Stay, we came home. I had pd Benj B. Hendricks the tax in full this day 11$ 87 C
