Me and Thomas have started to work out really well as a songwriting team. Due to this we managed to write over 40 (!) songs that were good enough to make demos of. Out of those there were 35 that were good enough for a record. So we ended up with material for 3 albums. So the situation was pretty much identical to when we wrote Lemuria and Sirius B and had over 30 songs. Back then we decided to make 2 album at the same time and save songs... for a 3:rd album (but instead those ended up divided between Gothic Kabbalah, Sitra Ahra and one song even ended up on Beloved Antichrist as the scene ”Signs are here”).
This time we decided to release them one by one and instead of mixing it all up, decided to divide by style (though some songs are kind of overlapping).
LEVIATHAN I: Released on this Friday. This one is the most bombastic and epic sounding one. Hit oriented. Many will prefer this one.
LEVIATHAN II: Will be released some time next year. This one is more dark and melancholic. Many songs are also hit oriented, but in a more ”sad” way. It doesn’t sound like Vovin in any direct way, but that album was also more dark and melancholic than any other Therion album. My gut feeling tells me this one will be a bit more popular.
LEVIATHAN III: Will be released some time during 2023. This one is a collection of the remaining songs, which makes it more diverse. Some more adventurous and progressive songs, some folk inspired and also some heavier than usual tracks. Those who appreciated the more adventurous side of Therion over the years will probably favour this one, but in general I predict it will be the least popular one in the trilogy.
We have more songs than we need for these three albums, so there will be some leftovers that may be used as bonus tracks or even a special release like we did back in the days with A’arab Zaraq Lucid Dreaming and Crowning of Atlantis. We have a few album outtakes lying around in the vaults, so it could maybe be an idea.
We have already recorded a lot on Leviathan II and it should be mixed this spring. Also the drums have already been completed for Leviathan III. We will finalise it asap after II. So we will have the albums ready well in advance and will be able to pull them out of the pocket when it’s suitable to have them released, which is convenient, as we can then adapt to how situation will look like with touring.
