Lets take a trip down memory lane shall we? It was late September in 2007 when Konami decided to bring Guitar Freaks and Drummania over to North America for the first time ever (with the exception of
...
the first very poorly distributed Guitar Freaks). The location test started on September 30th 2007 and lasted until Early November. Both games were linked together for Session play, and e-amuse was hooked up to the Japanese server. Americans were now connected to the Japanese matchmaking as well, and it was the first time ever this had ever been done (and as far as I know I was the only person able to find a match against another player from Japan).
During this time the game was played very often. More often at times when e-amuse was online. Konami had a webcam setup and was watching the whole test. It seemed to be pretty successful from what I could tell. It had other new players come and play, as well as the hardcore players (I am talking to you June). However all was not well.
After months of waiting Konami never released anything about if the game was going to be released or not-and the game never was released either. Its a shame to see such a great game not get released, and see some crappy games get released here instead-or at least highly downgraded versions of good games.
This video is the last little bit of proof I have of the location test. I was pretty new to Drummania, and I was proud to be the first North American player to play the first localized version of the game. In the video I play the Premium Encore Extra Stage MODEL DD8.
I also have some pictures I am going to make into a slideshow and upload later. So please enjoy this video and memory, and remember what could have been for the United States Bemani scene.
Konami if you are reading this... Why?
