This was to be Stanfield's third and final attempt to succeed as leader of the PCs against Trudeau. This was also Lewis' second and last election run as leader of the NDP. Lewis was the first person to replace party founder Tommy Douglas. The next year would see Lewis succeeded by Ed Broadbent, who would hold the job until 1989. A second clip shows the results of election night July 9 two months later, with the Liberals getting a very solid majority that would endure nearly five years - three election victories in a row for Pierre Trudeau.
