My Life My Power (MLMP) is a National 501(c)3 Anti-Bullying and Youth Development Non-Profit, that was founded in 2010 by Undefeated Mixed Martial Arts Fighter and WWE's Tough Enough Champion, Daniel Puder. While Daniel is a now a Professional Athlete, things were quite different for him while growing up. He struggled with being overweight and was also in Special Education classes throughout the majority of his schooling, which caused him to be an easy target of bullying. When he began to hear of the kids who were committing suicide from being bullied, he felt a personal connection to the issue and knew that something needed to be done to change the mindset of our youth! Therefore, rather than simply saying a few public words about this issue, Daniel was compelled to create a complete program, geared toward youth, to be implemented in schools and after-school programs to prevent more tragedies from happening. And that is how the My Life My Power Program began!
The My Life My Power program has been designed to teach our youth the importance of GOAL SETTING, MENTORING, CHARACTER BUILDING, PERSONAL BRANDING, LEADERSHIP, RESUME BUILDING, and FINANCIAL LITERACY in order to shift a bullying mentality and diminish the negative mindset that they may have toward themselves, their peers, and authority figures to ultimately lead to their own success and happiness in life. It is important to note that within the different schools and after-school programs that have implemented the My Life My Power book program, teachers, school staff, parents, and students have told us that those involved in the My Life My Power program are not only more motivated and goal oriented in the classroom, but they are empowered to achieve success through our teaching them all of the important and necessary life skills. In addition, the overall school climate and culture is improved as the students are more prone to working together in a team atmosphere and be peer mentors to one another.
The thing that sets the My Life My Power program apart from other anti-bullying programs and campaigns is that My Life My Power is provided to students year round through a 300 page interactive workbook. Once My Life My Power has been adopted by a school or an after-school program, a "club" will be established and will meet during lunch or after school to go through a different chapter of the book, (how often the club will meet is flexible according to each school and after-school program). Each meeting will then be overseen by a school safety officer, teacher, or school staff member, and will be student led in order to teach peer mentoring and leadership skills.
What gives the My Life My Power Program credibility:
In order to create a complete and well-rounded book, Daniel Puder has sought out a dynamic team of individuals to contribute to the content of the My Life My Power book. The team behind the program and some of the chapters in the book includes a Medical Doctor who specializes in Psychiatry, a Marriage and Family Therapist with a Masters in Counseling and Psychology, a Clinical Psychologist who is also a Marriage and Family Therapist, a Registered Dietician with a Masters in Nutrition, a Social Entrepreneur, numerous Law Enforcement Officials, as well as Counselors, Teachers, Principals, School Districts across the Nation. In addition, the information provided in the book has been confirmed and verified by these individuals who specialize in their related fields.
My Life My Power maintains an emphasis on anti-bullying while also addressing the following:
Suicide/Self-Mutilation, Dropouts/Truancy, Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Physical and Sexual Abuse, Eating Disorders, Teen Pregnancy, Gang Violence, Childhood Obesity, Homelessness, Financial Literacy, and Physical and Mental Disorders
The reason My Life My Power is addressing all of these other topics in addition to bullying, goes back to the fact that there is an underlying issue going on in the lives of these children and teenagers that causes them to bully others. The lack of knowledge that our youth has when it comes to some of these issues is alarming and through the My Life My Power book, we believe that each of these areas must be addressed in order to combat the central issue of bullying.
