Sky News host Peter Gleeson says the lure of the beaches in places like the Gold Coast and Port Macquarie has proven irresistible, especially for those wanting to escape “Chairman Dan’s Melbourne dict

atorship”.
“It’s interesting to see the massive influx of city slickers heading to places like the Gold Coast, Port Macquarie and Orange in the wake of the pandemic,” Mr Gleeson said.
He said newly released data has shown Surfers Paradise has become the most popular suburb in Australia, with 1079 sales in the 12 months to November 30.
“In order, those to follow were Port Macquarie, Orange, Pakenham," he said.
“So, you can see the attraction of the bush and the coast is real and people are flocking to the regions, many of them buying sight unseen.
“The pandemic has shown that you can work from home, remotely, and in many instances, employers are building that sort of flexibility into their workplace arrangements.
“The real growth is the Victorian exodus to southeast Queensland.”
Mr Gleeson said the danger for regional Victorians is that the only people remaining in Melbourne will be the ‘stand with Dan’ crowd.
“Which means he’ll probably get back at the net election - what a tragedy".
