Lionel into bankruptcy in 1982. By 1985, they were back and on the grow again, but competition from discount stores and Toys 'R' Us forced them back into bankruptcy in 1991. 29 stores were left by 1993, in the Mid-Atlantic area (Philadelphia having a large presence of locations) and Florida, but the final stores liquidated later that year. Stores also went under the names: Toy City, Lionel Playworld, Lionel Toy Warehouse, and Lionel Toy Town.
