ricks surf spot. Billionaire venture capitalist, Vinod Khosla, considers himself the land owner, thus preventing surfers from entering "his" property to access Martin's Beach - even resulting in unnecessary arrests when surfers are willing to trespass for waves.
Luckily, the Surfrider Foundation has stepped in, a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting oceans, waves and beaches. Surfrider attorney-at-law, Mark Massara, is this week's guest on Off the Lip Radio Show to answer any questions you may have about public beach access.
On October 24th, 2013, Superior Court Judge Gerald Buchwald ruled that a billionaire land owner can legally block the only road into the Half Moon Bay sanction of Martin's Beach. Although the public is still allowed to use the stretch of land, they must now get there by boat. The ruling marks a huge setback for the beach access movement.
