r II. 1965 में भारत-पाक युद्ध में असल उत्तर की लड़ाई भारतीय सेना के लिए एक मील का पत्थर जीत साबित हुई जिसने द्वितीय विश्व युद्ध के बाद से पाकिस्तान सेना को सबसे बड़ी टैंक युद्ध में सफलतापूर्वक हराया। In the year 1965, Pakistan tried invading Punjab with its 250+ tanks and 10000+ infantry, with an intent to capture Khem Karan in India, and then controlling the National Highway 1. The battle is described as one the largest tank battles in history since World War II. The fierce tank battle that lasted for over 3 days, 4 Grenadiers led Indian Army to a landmark victory with a plan that not only marked the strategic excellence of the Indian Army, but also underlined their courage and valour. The battle also witnessed the ultimate bravery of an Indian Company Quarter Master Abdul Hamid, who knocked down 7 enemy tanks with a recoilless gun. He was posthumously honoured with India's Highest Gallantry Award - Param Vir Chakra.
