two civilian victims. Only three of the ten man crew would survive but all 8 RAF Police Dog Handlers perished.
All the police dogs died or had to be destroyed. Curiously Buster The Hero Police Dog who was in attendance began to howl during the Bugle Playing.
A local farmer would earn a George Cross that day for his brave action in approaching the inferno and pulling injured victims from the wreckage. He only recently died but his widow was guest of honour at the ceremony. There was also a widow of of the crew (I believe the lady in a wheelchair)
Iain Henderson (ex RAF Police) undertook all the research and arrangements for this event single handedly.
