Multiple fire code violations were found during the fire investigation, which largely contributed to intense fire and toxic smoke spread as well as the major loss of life. The survivors were interviewed in a coordinated effort to collect historical information about the Cocoanut Grove fire in 2012, as part of the 70th anniversary observance.
