ths our technical te4am built out new studios, next boradcast equipment and we set about to hire a ful staff. We completed that in mid Summer, and on July 8th, 1981, with the sun shining warmly on the Lake Washington (Leschi) waterfromt, at exactly 5:04 PM we threw the switch, ran a quick history of popular music and then the new General Manager, Micahel O'Shea, made a prolific announcement. The "New 93" would be the first station in America to "Guarantee the Music". At least 51 minutes of music each hour, or a listener could win $10,000. We launched with Seattle radio personality icon Charlie Brown doing the first hour. And thats what this video is all about...the FIRST hour, of the New 93, soon to become KUBE 93FM. That was 30 years ago, and the station continues to be one of Seattle's top rated music stations today.
