"I was born 1946 in NYC and grew up in the wilds of Westchester county in a big white mid century house with many rooms to let my imagination run wild til I went to Bard College then University of Colorado, Boulder in cultural anthropology...the study of mankind which grew into my
photos of human sexuality.
I married Lynka Adams Kroll and we had two daughters Leah and Willa. I stayed married 17 years then had an 8 year relatioship with a much younger woman, Felice Arroyo.
Lynka and I collaborated for many photos and later I spent 8 years photographing Felice.
Ive done many books including Sex Objects 1976 (Addison House) on American roadside sex. Its considered very collectible which I like.
I started making books with TASCHEN in 1993 and stayed with Benedikt Taschen til I was let go in 2007.Among many books is Fetish Girls (TASCHEN 1994) I continued to make photos in LA til I had to move into my mom's house in Tucson, Az because I was too broke to live in LA without the job I had had with TASCHEN as photo book editor.
In New York from 1971 to 1994 I worked as a photo journalist and did photographs of many important personalities and artists like Madonna, Korean video artist Nam June Paik, Stiv Bators of the Dead Boys, and many more. Recently I had my cameras stolen by a very sexy woman and now I use my G7 phone as my camera. Instigram has become my format since magazines DIED. In the past I worked on a steady freelance basis for Vogue, New York Times and the German magazine Der Spiegel. The rest of my life is spent and will be spent organizing my archive. You should see it."
