The future has arrived! Or so briefly it did.
Thursday June 22nd saw GWR Class 800 Super Express on a mainline test run working from North Pole Depot (West London) to Cornwall and back. Thus venturing

deep into the West Country, the very first time into Cornwall and first time to be seen in broad daylight in the area too. As it was a last minute announcement on social media about this run I decided to head to the Dawlish Sea Wall to get a long shot of the train. Plus as the 800 units were stopping at Dawlish Warren station for 20 mins I then got ahead of it and filmed the train at Cockwood. Coincidentally the 800 units were being looped at the Warren to allow a High Speed Train its old predecessor to pass. The 800's are not intended to run on this route as the more related Class 802's with their larger fuel tanks are due to be in service in early 2019.
This was my first personal glimpse at these new trains. They're smart and sleek looking but not quite as loud or as handsome as the HST's they're replacing.
