this, IBM moved on to rubber dome boards. Essentially a low-cost version of the Model M, it still features buckling springs and nice keycaps, but in every other regard feels cheap and lacking.
Particularly renowned for electrical failure due to faulty capacitors, these are a complete liability and one of the two I bought was completely dead; this one worked, but poorly. The lack of protection for the membrane had led to considerable corrosion on the traces. It's working fine now, but it doesn't feel - or even look - as good as the Model M.
The practice sentence was "Hello my name is Thomas and I'm typing on an IBM Model M2 right now. These things are hideously unreliable but this one still works - barely. Still buckling springs though."
Before I cleaned it, this came out as "Hllo nmy nmanme is Thonmas anmd I'nm typinmg onm anm I
odel 2 right nmow. Thse thinmgs are hideously unmrliabvl bvut this onme still works - bvarly. Still bvucklinmg sprinmgs though." (with all words on a new line due to the faulty enter) The keyboard works fine now though.
