"A few months before the end of my senior year of college, I was asked to write a piece in honor of the retirement of Dr. Pamela Perry--a mentor, teacher, friend and the director of the CCSU University Singers, a group that I had been a member of for four years and absolutely loved. The resulting piece is what you are hearing now, a short setting of Robert Frost's "Nothing Gold Can Stay." Once I heard the poem, I knew it was perfect for the occasion, as "gold" is what Dr. Perry truly was. I wrote the entire piece in a matter of hours, and presented it--in secret--to my group that same day to rehearse privately without Dr. Perry's knowledge. A few weeks later, it was premiered in an unplanned portion of our 20th Anniversary Concert, conducted by myself. I will never forget her reaction or the emotion I felt from the University Singers that night. Those little moments, coupled with the overall simplicity of the piece have made it one of my favorite compositions. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do." -- Matthew Weisher
