The Shanghai Sisters
Asia’s first female Shanghai Jazz trio, The Shanghai Sisters is a
lovely vocal powerhouse with a repertoire of songs from yesteryear;
set to a blend of styles ranging from Old Shanghai, Grand Malaya to
Romantic Hollywood. They are the pioneer in unique next-to-none,
ingenious East-and-West mashup numbers, delighting their audience with
multi-lingual repertoire. Serving the old and familiar, given a breath
of freshness /fresh air through clever re-arrangement and
reimagination.
Since their inception in 2014, The Shanghai Sisters has fast become
one of the most sought after ensemble in Malaysia and making headway
across borders. Collaborating closely with them is none other than the
highly prolific WVC Malaysian Jazz Ensemble; a long-lasting affair
that has provided much vigour and excitement into the ensemble's
performances. Known for their vivacious and sleek showmanship, the
trio has been seen performing in Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and
various cities of Malaysia.
The trio released a self-titled Super Audio CD album at the Hong Kong
High End Audio Visual Show in August 2019, just five months after
their Malaysian launch of a debut album at two sold-out album launch
performances. Their appearance at the Hong Kong release and signing
event gained much excitement/attention from media. Radio interviews,
magazine features, etc.
The year of 2019 ended high with a nomination at Chinese AIM 2020
under Best Group category, which the trio also attended as an award
presenter.
The trio are currently working on a follow-up to their eponymous debut
album, which was released in Super Audio CD format in 2019.
One is fun, Two is merry, THREE is sublime.
