From a harmonic time series containing 10 partials, the lowest fundamentals are removed successively. The resulting time series and spectrum are illustrated in the video together with the sound.

ough the timbre changes, the perceived pitch at 50 Hz does not. This phenomenon is known as "virtual pitch", "missing fundamental", "residue pitch", or "Residualtonhöhe". In the time series it can be seen that removing the lowest partials does not eliminate the periodicity of 20 ms.
