a higher percentage of votes in most parts of the East End in areas like Bethnal Green and Bow where Richard Edmonds, the former national organiser for the party, stood as PPC for the constituency Bethnal Green and Stepney in the 1992 General Election having gained 1,310 votes (3.6%) which polled the highest for the party in that election only no deposits were saved.
Many of the BNP's rallies took place in this constituency and in 1990, Eddy Butler formed the 'Rights for Whites' campaign against mass immigration into the city- this march was not formed by skinhead bootboys, it was formed in community spirit by many English patriotic families. This march was formed against an anti-English racist attack on John Stoner by a group of knife attacking Bangladeshis; this was formed because the courts threw the case out and dismissed the attack as racist. This infuriated many locals so along went the 'Rights for Whites' campaign who marched for justice. This was shown on the BBC Panorama 'Race Hate UK' in April 1991:

Eddy goes through all the old archives of the old-style National Front and the British National Party. As Eddy shows, the BNP did not go around as thugs in suits smashing bottles, it formed campaigns for the community and the problems in the city's areas and took into account everyone's problems in the area.
