Glamour was in the air on Friday April 20th at the West London venue O2 Shepherds Bush Empire, as a crowd of retro
...
-aesthetes wearing vintage attire flowed at the gates to enjoy the sounds of the close harmony vocal trio The Puppini Sisters.
Apparently, It takes only three girls to build a time machine.
Surfing on the neo burlesque trend, the group was founded in 2004 by Marcella Puppini, a former student at London's St. Martins School of Fashion born in Bologna, joined by Brits Stephanie O'Brien and Kate Mullins.
The girls excel at creating a sophisticated, refined and smooth atmosphere, using a wide range of visual and musical references. Think old Hollywood meets Kate Bush, or a Smiths concert during the prohibition era. Their repertoire also includes unexpected American musical covers such as Marilyn Monroe's Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend from Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, together with Good Morning from Babes in Arms, Singin' in the Rain, I Feel Pretty from West Side Story and more.
And all that in style please! The ladies know how to add a dash of punkish subversion to old school Jazz and poppy swing, wearing 1940s influenced figure hugging dresses and bright red lipstick.
Which gentleman wouldn't hold the door for them, really?
