The midtown series was introduced by Gibson Memphis plant in 2011. It paid heritage to the 335 shape by creating a similar looking guitar at a much cheaper price point. These are not built the same way. They are more so like an oversized, chambered Les Paul in construction with hollowed out mahogany bodies.
The Midtown Kalamzoo was a limited edition run in 2013 that paid tributes to the famous Gibson Byrdland. This guitar features the same thin neck profile and 23.5" scale length as the originals. It takes its looks from a 50s Byrd. How does it's other specs and measurements compare to an original? It's half as thick, 2" shorter all around and basically a completely different instrument that just looks like a byrd.
Overall - I like this Kalamazoo model much more than my last MIdtown. These are real gems!

The Guitar! 7lbs 12oz
The limited edition Gibson Midtown Kalamazoo is based off of the Gibson Byrdland. If you've always found the Byrd's body to be way to thick for you - this is the next best thing! Playing wise, it feels like a Les Paul in the way it hugs your body, but yet, it looks so elegant and classy! These are loaded with '57 Classic pickups for nice smooth tones that can also do classic rock - Ted Nugent Style!
This example is all-original and in great, lightly-used shape. It was purchased new from Sweetwater for the owner's son to learn on - but he never got around to it! Due to that, there are only faint scratches from picking as are common with darker finishes and other light handling marks. There are two finish checking lines that stem from the binding and travel upwards an inch or two down by the tailpiece. They are hard to see, but are there if you're looking for them! Also, the neck pickup's plastic volume control knob has a crack in it.
