The Band Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark, otherwise known as OMD had quite a run in the 80s. Comprised of vocalist bassist Andy Mclusky and vocalist keyboardist Paul Humphries along with the members, the band released the song Electricity in 1979 to some fanfare and then came on strong into the 80s with several highly acclaimed singles and album including the anti war classic Enola Gay and the blissful song Souvenir which went to #3 on the UK charts and the beautiful Joan of arc both from their album Architecture and Morality and then the band got experimental with the wonderful lp Dazzle Ships which was a commercial disappointment. That’s where OMD started to shift to a more pop sound with the album Junk Culture released in 84 with fantastic singles like locomotion which went top 5 in the UK and Tesla Girls. The band started to make inroads in the US with 1985’s Crush working with producer Stephan Hague whom they co-wrote their first single to hit in America So In Love which went to the top 30. Secret was another great single from that album. Then the band was tapped to write a song for a John Hughes film called Pretty In Pink.
