be gay and we are not still forced to feel that hesitation every time we have to set the record straight on our sexuality.
We've heard from many who are still in the struggle or coming out to their family in fear of not being accepted. Our message is simple. BE YOU. It does get better. You are never alone. Yes, it may be hard and there is a chance you won't be accepted by those you fear don't support the gays but for every person you know who doesn't accept it you will meet hundreds, thousands, millions who do accept us. So be brave and let your flag fly!
(Blue) When I was 19 and lived in small town Colorado I knew I couldn't be who I was there. There was no culture that I felt a part of. There was no community I fit into. I knew I needed to forge my own way and to do that I had to relocate. I found myself in California and suddenly I was a part of something. I made friends that were in the same situation as I was. I discovered what made me special and unique. In ways, the decision to seek a better life for myself saved my life.
That isn't going to be the answer for everyone who struggles. But for Blue it was. For you it might be more complicated or maybe less complicated. Regardless we all must explore our options for a better life surrounded by those who embrace us for ALL of the parts that make up who we are.
We can't forget that in some parts of our world it's considered criminal to be homosexual. People are harassed and beaten for being gay. Humans are slaughtered! This should outrage us all and give perspective to those of us living in a country where liberty allows us to love without discrimination. If you're reading this from one of those parts of the world, be safe, be brave, persevere.
Let's not waste our freedom. BE YOU. Be a part of the fight for equality. Come out screaming!
