I bought this game not too long ago not knowing that it was one of the "rare" U.S. Game Gear titles, and I was wondering what the word was on it. After doing some research on it, there was one thing t

hat impressed me more than anything else about this title: this game is the last official Game Gear game ever made. Just how "new" is the game? Well, it seems to be the only GG game made in 1997. A GAME IN 1997... FOR GAME GEAR??? All I can say is WOW. Well, needless to say, they were smart for not putting many copies into circulation.
The game is surprisingly pretty good, but short; it wasn't the best way to send the system off, but I've seen worse. The game has some of the cleanest (non-cutscene) graphics on the GG with nice, darker color usage and attention to detail (for instance, you make splashes when you jump into water and make leaves fall down when you ruffle branches in bushes/trees) and the music is pretty cool too. The gameplay is very basic and the levels are a little too short for their own good.
You play as a hunter for the majority of the game, though you're assisted by your pet mini-dinosaur (Compy) for two levels and you make a grand escape in a driving segment for the final level. The hunter has no real abilities, just a good bit of vitality and the ability to shoot in multiple directions and push rare switches or go through doors. Compy can kick and kill some smaller creatures, is fast, and can climb up walls, but has no vitality (generally dies in one hit). This game can probably be cleared in about 12-20 minutes, which is probably about half the time it took me to clear various old classics of the same type (w/o TASing of course), so I'd certainly say it's on the short side, and there's nothing to really look forward to when you're done.
It's based on the 1997 film due to the naming conventions, but I'm not entirely sure if the story is. It may borrow elements from the 1995 novel and the movie, or have an unrelated or general plot. The first GG Jurassic Park game was generally better. Enjoy.
