This is Singer/Songwriter Elio Pace aged 20 years old when he appeared on 'WOGAN' in August 1988.
'WOGAN' was Sir Terry Wogan's chat show which was broadcast live on BBC Television from the BBC Tel
...
evision Theatre (now the Shepherds Bush Empire) every Monday, Wednesday and Friday night. The show ran from 1985 to 1992.
This appearance by Elio came just a few weeks after his television debut on 'Bob Says Opportunity Knocks' and sees him perform a medley of 'Don't Get Around Much Anymore', 'One Night' and 'Flip, Flop & Fly', backed by the late great Harry Stoneham and his band. Although, (and I quote Elio) "the sound mix is so bad you'd be forgiven for thinking that the band consisted purely of a lone trumpeter playing a hi-hat with his foot"
According to certain sources at the time, because the show was live and had overrun, the producers (who were keen to give Elio his platform) asked the network for some extra time so as not to have to fade out Elio's performance on this early evening prime time show.
Elio is to be Musical Director/House Band for Sir Terry Wogan's new BBC Radio 2 show starting on February 14th, 2010, but this day in August 1988 was the day that Terry and Elio first met and worked together.
