'The Blue Room'.
Savoy Orpheans directed by Carroll Gibbons.
Vocal Refrain by The Hamilton Sisters and Fordyce.
Recorded Hayes, Middlesex, July 1st 1927.
This Savoy Orpheans record was recorded
...
during the short period of Carroll Gibbons leadership of the original Savoy Orpheans from early 1927 until the ending of the bands contract at the end of that same year. A tour of Germany followed before disbanding in March 1928.
Gibbons became a director of light music for HMV recording with The New Mayfair Orchestra's and accompanying many artists with smaller outfits such as Whispering Jack Smith, Paul Robeson and Anona Winn amongst others. Greater fame and recognition was to follow for him from 1931 when the newly formed Savoy Hotel Orpheans made it's way in to the hearts of british dance band lovers.
The Hamilton Sisters and Fordyce I have no information about although I do know 1927 was a busy year for them having recorded also for Ambrose & His Orchestra around this time.
Here is an acoustic Gramophone to help recreate some of the flavour of those last recording sessions of the original Savoy Orpheans. Enjoy!.
