A young detective, Walter Schmidt, from an immigrant family is anxious to please his police chief. It is 1911 and the city of Chicago is reeling from the disappearance of a little girl called Elsie Paroubek. While on his beat, the detective catches sight of a strange man and follows him. From that moment, Schmidt decides that this reclusive man named Henry Darger will be his suspect. Soon Schmidt is spending time with Darger and is drawn into his world. But is Schmidt the hunter or the hunted? Who really holds the power? And will the mystery of the lost girl be solved either in the real world or in Darger's fantasies?
