rt sanders".Since Novemeber 15th union General Ambrose Burnside had been fighting a delaying action as he retreated from lenoir city along the loudon road.Longstreet split his forces that were pursuing Burnside and sent half of them along Kingston road in a attempt to get ahead of the federals troops .His plan was to trap them at the intersection of the two roads.It was a race to Campbell's Station.Longstreet neglected to send a small cavalry force connected with his infantry marching down kingston road.Federal troops arrived at the intersection first.Union wagons and artillery streamed through the intersection..Federal forces formed a defensive postion near present day farragut and prepared for the attack from longstreet's seasoned veterans.SEE ALSO:THE BATTLE ATTACK OF FORT SANDERS 2011. 31u
