Children's Favourites is a fondly-remembered Saturday morning radio show on the BBC Light Programme.
First broadcast in 1954 and regularly presented by Derek McCulloch 'Uncle Mac' until 1965 it was a
...
programme of popular children's songs, comedy records and, in its later years, it included pop songs of the day. Children's Favourites continued until 1967 when it was renamed Junior Choice with the commencement of Radios 1 and 2.
It's often forgotten that there were a number of other Children's Favourites presenters during the 1965-67 period, including Leslie Crowther and Jim Dale.
Here we have a short sequence featuring the wonderful Jim Dale from around late 1965 or early 1966.
I may be wrong but I don't believe that the BBC has kept any of the programmes of this vintage in its archive.
It's unfortunate that this clip includes a song from Rolf Harris, but I leave it in for the sake of completeness because this is the only clip of Children's Favourites with Jim Dale that I have.
