valon Hill, SPI and GDW created the modern wargame industry that we know today. Their releases also created the design foundation of commercial conflict simulation.
Jack is of the generation that discovered wargaming with classics such as Tactics II, and in the late 70’s he founded a small wargame publishing company: People’s War Games. His releases were just different. First visually: shiny red boxes showing USSR soldiers. But beyond aesthetics, Jake also wanted to challenge the portrayal of the eastern front that we could read in history books and play in wargames at the time.
In this first part of his interview we’ll talk about his “origin story”, how he discovered wargaming, game design and finally became a publisher.
