Developed from the international best-selling book, Ali and Nino remains a testament to the strength of love in a war-torn world
...
. Set in the Middle East during the First World War, Ali, a Muslim who has been brought up in a Russian school in Azerbaijan, falls in love with Nino, an Orthodox Christian, whose family come from Georgia. As fighting engulfs the region, Nino is abducted by an Armenian rival on whom Ali takes revenge.
With a score heavily influenced by traditional Georgian and Persian music as well as performers drawn from around the world, Ali and Nino promises to be an epic tale of passion in the face of adversity.
Directed by National Theatre of Scotland director Joe Douglas with music by Tarek Merchant, Ali and Nino marks the beginning of a major international collaboration with theatres in the Caucusus.
