, Connecticut. She was launched on 27 March 1940 sponsored by Mrs. Claude A. Jones, and commissioned on 27 August 1940, with Lieutenant Commander William Lovett Anderson (Annapolis, Class of 1926) in command. Thresher received 15 battle stars and a Navy Unit Commendation for World War II service, placing her among the highest decorated US ships of the Second World War.
