unnel or a bypass to replace the existing Allegheny tunnel. The tunnel is highly traveled, but is getting old and rundown. The commission held a presentation allowing the public to check out the new plans and voice their concerns. It's an aging system. They are not built to last forever and with the traffic we have and the condition of tunnels were looking to do something long time, Design Engineer Manager of the Turnpike Commission Jeffrey Davis said. Here's the deal, according to Davis there are two options: build a new tunnel or a bypass.Unfortunately we can't widen the existing tunnel to make them better. We looked at that and documented that is not an alternative we can move forward with, Davis said. The commission presented three corridors, each one has a tunnel or bypass alternative. One will be the final decision. There is some concern to these proposed ideas, inviting the public to voice their opinions. Many concerned about their homes and wildlife in the surrounding area.It is like we are being invaded. Sure I understand that the Turnpike Commission has to upgrade and build for safety of the people who drive the turnpike, but we want the less upheaval of our lives, Marilyn Glessner said, who lives in Allegheny Township. For more information about the Allegheny mountain project click the link below:www.paturnpike.com and then click Major Design and Construction Projects
