Despite the fact the campaign could only afford to air the ad once, it turned into a major news story in its own right, receiving heavy coverage in TV news programs and newspapers around the state. Readers of the political trade magazine "Campaigns and Elections" voted "Looking for Rudy" the best political ad of all time, with Tony Schwarz's famous "Daisy" ad for Lyndon Johnson (which also aired only once) second and Hal Riney's classic "Morning In America" ad for Ronald Reagan third.
